This first year has been a tough go for many of them, so we got them all together to share their successes and failures. We took some time showing them how to use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.instructure.com\/\">Canvas<\/a> and the benefits of doing so, as well as some strategies to be successful with working with distance-students.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>After hearing from these teachers, I showed them a few tools and services that were out there that could potentially help them out. Here&#8217;s the list:<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hippocampus.org\/\">HippoCampus<\/a>&#8211; a repository of free educational resources for use in online courses from providers such as\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nrocmath.org\/\">NROC<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.khanacademy.org\/\">Khan Academy<\/a>, and interactive science simulations from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/phet.colorado.edu\/\">PhET<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/pioneer.uen.org\/k12\/Control?key=emedia\">eMedia<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; Accessible through the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/pioneer.uen.org\/k12\/\">Pioneer Library<\/a>, eMedia is like Netflix for Utah educators with educational videos and other resources aligned to Utah core areas and grade levels.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/kb\/306560\">Information on how to setup and use the International Keyboard<\/a>\u00a0options in Windows<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/socrative.com\/\">Socrative<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; Free online web-based student response system for quick quizzes that can gather student responses??from anywhere they have a computer, laptop or any web-enabled device. Once you\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/m.socrative.com\/lecturer\/#register\">sign up for an account<\/a>, students will access your quiz questions by going to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/m.socrative.com\/\">http:\/\/m.socrative.com<\/a>\u00a0&amp; entering your room number.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.polleverywhere.com\/\">Poll Everywhere<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; Also a type of student response system, also\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.polleverywhere.com\/plans\/classroom_response_system_k12\">free to educators<\/a>, but allows students to respond to questions or vote with a text\/SMS message from any cell phone (standard text message rates apply for responses). Poll questions can be embedded into a PowerPoint slide show as well.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sedcclint.com\/?p=118\">Paperless Workflow for Google Docs<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; I briefly talked through the basics of this, but with a little time setting this workflow up for you and your students, it really does make a paperless, distance classroom a reality.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/Rr6KlJceRHU\">Here&#8217;s how it&#8217;s working in other schools<\/a>.
